Hillside's Therapeutic Foster Care Program works with children and adolescents with significant emotional and behavioral problems within a specially trained therapeutic foster home.

OUR TREATMENT PROGRAM…

v     A specific family is matched to meet the child's needs.

v     Pre-placement visits ensure a successful transition.

v     Hillside coordinates an appropriate educational/ vocational placement.

v     We provide ongoing individual, group and family therapy.

v     Ensure all medical and psychiatric needs are met.

v     Provide regular respite for child and foster family.

v     Provide 24 hour, on-call support and case management.

v     Ensure each child has an appropriate aftercare plan.

v     Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is provided to youth who engage in impulsive, aggressive, self-injuring or suicidal behavior.  The youth and their therapeutic foster family are assigned to a DBT coach and they learn new skills while participating in the DBT skills group.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FOSTERING…

v     At least 21 years old

v     High school diploma or equivalent

v     Three favorable references

v     Automobile and car insurance

v     Financially stable

v     One adult who does not work outside the home (for full-time fostering)

v     36 hours of training to begin

v     Criminal history check for all adult household members

v     No confirmed history of child abuse, neglect or abandonment

v     Medical exam for all household members

v     Extensive in-home interviews

v     Safe home with adequate space for the addition of a child
